In a recent interview with Naija FM in Lagos, Nigerian Afrobeats star Timaya opened up about his perspective on respect in the music industry, addressing comparisons with veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem.

When the host brought up their perceived intimidating personalities, Timaya was quick to differentiate himself, saying:
"I don’t talk like Eedris. I don’t behave like him... Nobody is afraid of him because he talks too much. He has always been a talkative. I don’t even want people to be afraid of me. I respect myself so that people will respect me."

Despite the critique, Timaya clarified there’s no bad blood between them, describing their past relationship as a straightforward one between a boss and an apprentice.
"I’ve never had any problem with Eedris. He was part of my journey, and I acknowledge that. But back then, I don’t even think he knew my name. When I was in his band, there wasn’t much of a personal connection. If you're in a leadership position, it’s important to treat those serving you like family. You never know what the future holds."

Timaya’s message resonates as a call for humility and mutual respect in an industry known for its competitiveness.
